 Who Are we?

A child's development depends on music, especially when they play an instrument. It improves the child's brain activity, which helps them perform better academically at school and at home. Beyond poverty, our community faces many other issues. The Mamelodi Music Conservatoire (MMC), a recognized NPO (182-644 NPO), was established in 2009 and provides classical music instruction to kids in the Mamelodi area. The goals of MMC are to help reduce crime and drug misuse while also addressing Mamelodi's growing need for and lack of classical music instruction. We take great delight in our students performing for many local orchestras, including the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra and the Unisa Music Foundation Youth Orchestra, as well as for community events, at our music school.

Currently located in Mamelodi East at Koos Matli Primary School. The violin, viola, recorder, cello, bassoon, voice, trumpet, and trombone are among the instruments that MMC now offers. Aural training, music appreciation, and music history are all incorporated into music theory. Students enroll in Unisa Music to take theory and practical graded exams. Additionally, students take part in a variety of competitions, or better yet, festivals, like the Pretoria Eisteddfods and the Tshwane Metro Festival. The Unisa Music Foundation supports and sponsors MMC by providing instruments, certified and experienced tutors, and funding for music exams, to name a few.

Motivation

The realisation that music plays a crucial role in a child's life and academic achievement inspired the founding of MMC. Learning rhythms improves maths and reading, while increased spatial development fosters better note-decoding and symbol-reading skills (www.childrensmusicworkshop.com). Therefore, by continuing their education and participating in positive extracurricular activities, Mamelodi's youngsters may benefit from MMC and have an opportunity to improve their life. Children in the Mamelodi neighbourhood are exposed to classical music through MMC, and they learn to value music as an art form, an academic discipline, and a potential career path.

Mission

The Mission of MMC is to addressing the dearth of classical music instruction in Mamelodi. MMC aims to support youth development in order to prevent child maltreatment and to reduce a number of social ills that plague the area, including drug abuse, adolescent pregnancy, criminality, and school dropout rates.

Vision

The goal is to establish Mamelodi's first and premier youth orchestra. The ultimate objective is to establish a comprehensive arts school that provides instruction in a range of musical instruments in addition to other artistic disciplines including visual arts, acting, dance, and voice training.
